University of Wales Trinity St David

Teaching and learning of STEM subjects is going through a seismic shift around the globe. The pioneers are removing the traditional lecture theatre setup and pushing towards a more collaborative and immersive learning environment.
Studies have proven, such as Freeman 2014, that this inclusive and active style of teaching and learning increases grades by 6% and participation by 12%. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) are one of those leading the way. After extensive in-house research with students and academics, the university had a firm idea of what they wanted for their 300million new build SA1.

Working in partnership with UWTSD and Sony to deliver their brand new collaborative learning software (Vision Exchange), we set about bringing the immersive and active learning environments to life.
By driving conversations between the client and contractors we provided detailed elevation drawings to exacting measurements. Every week we were onsite, meticulously checking and double checking the plans and building work.

During delivery, whilst the new Sony Vision Exchange was still being developed, unforeseen changes were happening on a daily basis. We met each of these challenges head on,as Lyndon explains:
“IDNS adapted well to the changes and came up with new designs each time. An entire floor changed its purpose during the project and IDNS responded swiftly to solve the problems.”
“We worked with IDNS on what we wanted for our active and collaborative learning environments. They helped us deliver that vision with their design expertise. The quality of work has been superb and their ability to deliver the work under tight deadlines was exceptionally good.”
